Designed to be worn as either a breezy summer dress or an elegant tank top, Cedar combines thoughtful construction with an effortlessly contemporary aesthetic. Its softly flowing shape and unique overlapping bodice create an eye-catching garment that can be dressed up or down.
One of Cedar's most distinctive features is its three interchangeable side-closure styles. Choose long tie straps that wrap around the body and fasten at the back, sewn-in side panels for additional coverage, or a combination of side panels and decorative back ties.
The dress variation includes generous side-seam pockets, making it a practical and comfortable choice for warm-weather dressing. The tank version retains the signature overlapping front, narrow straps and triangular side openings in a shorter silhouette that pairs beautifully with trousers, shorts and skirts.
Cedar is especially attractive when sewn in lightweight to medium-weight woven fabrics with beautiful drape. Linen, cotton-linen blends, Tencel/lyocell, viscose and rayon blends are all recommended by the designer.
For a distinctive look, experiment with colour blocking by combining two coordinating fabrics. Contrasting panels can highlight the geometric design lines while giving each handmade piece a unique personality.

Two Garment Options
Option 1 – Cedar Dress
The Cedar Dress is a flowing summer dress with delicate shoulder straps, an overlapping front design and triangular side cut-outs. It includes practical side-seam pockets and can be made using any of the three closure variations.
Choose an airy linen for an effortless summer dress, a soft viscose for beautiful drape, or contrasting woven fabrics for a modern colour-blocked interpretation.

Option 2 – Cedar Tank Top
The Cedar Tank transforms the same distinctive design into a versatile sleeveless top. It features the overlapping bodice, narrow straps and geometric side openings of the dress, with a shorter length for everyday styling.
Pair it with linen trousers, wide-leg pants, denim or a handmade skirt. The different closure variations make it easy to create several distinct looks from one pattern.

Three Closure Variations
Variation A – Tie Straps
This version uses two long ties that wrap around the sides of the body and fasten together at the back.
The ties introduce an adjustable element and highlight the unique design of the side openings. This variation creates a distinctive open-sided appearance.
Variation B – Side Panels
For additional coverage, choose the version with sewn-in side panels. These panels close the sides of the garment while preserving Cedar's geometric design details.
This variation is an especially appealing option for customers who prefer more coverage through the sides of the bust.
Variation C – Side Panels & Tie Straps
This version combines the coverage of sewn-in side panels with the visual detail of long back ties.
It offers a beautiful balance between the practicality of the panel construction and the playful look of a decorative back closure.
Fit Tip: The designer particularly recommends Variations B and C for fuller busts because the side panels provide additional coverage.
Design Details
Geometric Side Cut-Outs
The triangular side openings give Cedar its distinctive architectural character. These openings are created by the shape of the front bodice and the selected side-closure treatment.
Delicate Shoulder Straps
Narrow shoulder straps provide a minimal, feminine finish. The straps are constructed separately and attached to the bodice during assembly.
Overlapping Bodice
The angular front sections create a modern overlapping effect, especially striking when sewn in two coordinating colours.
Side-Seam Pockets
The dress variation includes generously sized pockets integrated into the side seams. They provide practical storage while maintaining the garment's flowing silhouette.
Clean Neckline Finish
Separate front and back lining pieces help create a clean finish around the bodice and neckline. The pattern also includes interfacing pieces to reinforce selected areas.
Colour-Blocking Potential

The Cedar Dress & Tank is designed for woven fabrics with medium drape. Fabrics should be comfortable against the skin and suitable for a warm-weather dress or sleeveless top.

Colour-Blocking Tip: When combining two fabrics, select materials with comparable weight, composition, texture and care requirements so they behave similarly during sewing and laundering.
Fabric Selection Tip: Choose a fabric with enough drape to flow comfortably around the body without excessive stiffness. Very rigid fabrics may change the intended silhouette.

The following quantities apply to the tank-top version. Requirements vary depending on the selected size and fabric width.

For a dress made entirely from one main fabric, use the following quantities.

Important for Sizes 20–30: The dress requires fabric with a minimum selvedge-to-selvedge width of approximately 130 cm - 51". The designer does not provide dress requirements for these sizes at a width of 115 cm.
Fabric Requirements – Colour-Blocked Dress
To create the dress using two coordinating fabrics, the designer provides separate quantities for the main and contrasting fabrics.

Important: For the colour-blocked dress in sizes US 20–30, the main fabric must be at least approximately 130 cm - 51" wide, even when the contrast fabric is narrower. Consult the original cutting charts included with the pattern.
Additional Fabric: Allow extra for fabric shrinkage, directional prints, pattern matching, garment adjustments and narrower usable widths.

Size Range & Fit
The Cedar Dress & Tank includes US sizes 0–30, covering a broad range of body measurements.
The pattern is designed around a reference height of 5'5"–5'7" (approximately 165–170 cm).
Cup Size Options

The smaller-size pattern file contains the C-cup drafting, while the larger-size pattern file contains the D-cup drafting.

Because digital products cannot be returned once downloaded, we do not offer refunds, returns, or exchanges on any PDF pattern purchases.

We strive for excellence in our products and customer service, but some imperfections may occur with fabric.
Please note that stains, holes, or blemishes within 3 inches (10 cm) of the edge are considered acceptable. Missing or pulled knit stitches on the wrong side of the fabric that do not distort the face are also considered acceptable. Additionally, fabric cut at 1 to 3 cm from the edge is acceptable. Stains on the inside of the fabric are also acceptable if they do not appear on the right side.
Please be aware that fabric may shrink after the first wash, so we recommend purchasing slightly more than the exact length required for your project.
We cannot cancel or refund orders once we've cut your fabric. If a refund is necessary, a 5% administration fee of your total bill will be charged.
We cannot offer refunds or compensation for items purchased a few days before they go on sale.
If a product is sold out, we'll contact you immediately to offer either a refund of the item at the price you've paid or a replacement with a product of equal value.
