A distinctive 100% wool designer deadstock coating fabric combining a richly textured wool face with a waterproof backing. The dark brown and black yarn-dyed construction creates subtle tonal variation and depth, giving the fabric a sophisticated, understated appearance that reveals more detail when viewed up close.
The wool face is yarn-dyed, meaning the yarns are dyed before weaving rather than the colour being printed onto the finished surface. Dark brown and black tones are integrated directly into the woven construction, creating a nuanced mélange-like effect with fine linear texture and beautiful visual depth.
At a substantial 515 gsm, this is a true heavyweight coating fabric with excellent body and structure. The wool face provides the rich hand and distinctive character expected from a premium wool coating, while the substantial construction makes it particularly well suited to structured fall and winter outerwear.
What makes this fabric especially unusual is the waterproof backing applied to the reverse. The backing creates a waterproof barrier behind the wool face while also adding stability and body to the fabric. This combination makes it an exceptional option for outerwear where the appearance and texture of wool are desired together with additional protection from wet weather.
The dark brown and black colour combination is exceptionally versatile. From a distance, the fabric reads as a very deep, almost black brown, while closer inspection reveals the warmer brown yarns woven throughout the surface. The result is a refined neutral that pairs easily with black, charcoal, camel, cream and other classic outerwear colours.
As a designer deadstock fabric, this wool comes from surplus designer production and is available only in limited quantities. Once the available yardage is sold, it may not be possible to restock.

Sewing Tip: At 515 gsm, choose sewing patterns designed for heavyweight coating fabrics and grade bulky seam allowances where necessary. Because the fabric has a waterproof backing, minimize unnecessary pinholes by using sewing clips where practical and test your needle on a scrap before beginning. A separate garment lining is recommended for coats and jackets to create a comfortable and polished interior finish.
Please note that colours may vary slightly depending on your screen settings and lighting conditions.

We strive for excellence in our products and customer service, but some imperfections may occur with fabric.
Please note that stains, holes, or blemishes within 3 inches (10 cm) of the edge are considered acceptable. Missing or pulled knit stitches on the wrong side of the fabric that do not distort the face are also considered acceptable. Additionally, fabric cut at 1 to 3 cm from the edge is acceptable. Stains on the inside of the fabric are also acceptable if they do not appear on the right side.
Please be aware that fabric may shrink after the first wash, so we recommend purchasing slightly more than the exact length required for your project.
We cannot cancel or refund orders once we've cut your fabric. If a refund is necessary, a 5% administration fee of your total bill will be charged.
We cannot offer refunds or compensation for items purchased a few days before they go on sale.
