The Mathilde Skirt by Merchant & Mills is a simple gathered skirt with a deep elasticated waistband designed to be sewn with patch pockets, inseam pockets or without pockets. Using a clever zero- to minimal-waste cutting layout, Mathilde is the perfect project for making the most of beautiful fabrics already in your stash.
Instead of traditional pattern pieces, this pattern provides detailed cutting measurements and illustrated instructions so you can cut your skirt directly from the fabric. The result is a timeless, comfortable skirt that is quick to sew and easy to personalize.
Mathilde also lends itself beautifully to striped and border fabrics. By cutting the skirt across the grain, you can use the selvedge as a decorative hem border for a unique finish.
All seam allowances are 1.5 cm (⅝") unless otherwise stated and are included in the measurements.

Fabric requirements are based on a finished skirt length of 86 cm (33¾"). The skirt can easily be lengthened or shortened by adjusting the cutting layout.
Elastic Requirements
- Size 6–8: 0.7 m (¾ yd)
- Size 10–12: 0.9 m (1 yd)
- Size 14–16: 0.9 m (1 yd)
- Size 18–20: 1.2 m (1¼ yd)

Check your waist measurement before cutting your elastic. The quantities above include extra length for fitting.
Special Cutting Option
For striped or border fabrics, the skirt can be cut across the grain so the selvedge becomes the hem border.

Shipping fees are automatically calculated based on the weight of your order, with several delivery options and prices available.
If a carrier does not service your address, we may need to use an alternative option, which could incur additional charges, particularly for P.O. box addresses.
For remote or rural areas where delivery costs are higher, additional fees may apply. In these cases, we will provide proof of the shipping costs to ensure transparency.

All of our sewing patterns are sold as digital PDF files and are delivered instantly after purchase.
Because digital products cannot be returned once downloaded, we do not offer refunds, returns, or exchanges on any PDF pattern purchases.
Please make sure you have the correct email address and a device that can open PDF files before completing your order.
If you encounter any issues with your download link or file, feel free to contact us and we’ll be happy to assist you.
We strive for excellence in our products and customer service, but some imperfections may occur with fabric.
Please note that stains, holes, or blemishes within 3 inches (10 cm) of the edge are considered acceptable. Missing or pulled knit stitches on the wrong side of the fabric that do not distort the face are also considered acceptable. Additionally, fabric cut at 1 to 3 cm from the edge is acceptable. Stains on the inside of the fabric are also acceptable if they do not appear on the right side.
Please be aware that fabric may shrink after the first wash, so we recommend purchasing slightly more than the exact length required for your project.
We cannot cancel or refund orders once we've cut your fabric. If a refund is necessary, a 5% administration fee of your total bill will be charged.
We cannot offer refunds or compensation for items purchased a few days before they go on sale.
If a product is sold out, we'll contact you immediately to offer either a refund of the item at the price you've paid or a replacement with a product of equal value.
Please note that monitor or device settings may affect how you view product colours on our website. We cannot issue a refund if there are discrepancies between the product image and the actual colour.
