This premium pink plaid cotton flannel fabric gives classic tartan-inspired plaid a colourful, contemporary twist. A vibrant pink ground is intersected by deep navy, warm camel, white, blue and fine yellow lines, creating a distinctive multicoloured plaid with beautiful depth and contrast.
Made from 100% cotton with a soft brushed surface, this flannel combines comfort with enough body to create garments with a defined silhouette. At 260 gsm, it is more substantial than lightweight shirting while remaining comfortable and versatile for everyday clothing and cool-weather layering.

What Is Yarn-Dyed Flannel?
This is a yarn-dyed cotton flannel, meaning the individual yarns are coloured before they are woven together. The plaid is created directly through the woven construction rather than being printed onto the surface of a finished fabric.
Because the colours are woven into the cloth, the plaid remains visible on both sides of the fabric. The intersections between the differently coloured yarns also create additional shades and subtle variations, giving yarn-dyed plaid its characteristic visual depth.
This can be especially attractive for garments where the reverse side occasionally shows, such as rolled cuffs, open overshirts, shirt jackets and unlined layering pieces.
Soft Brushed Cotton With Structure

This is not a fluid fabric. Rather than falling like rayon or viscose, it holds its shape and creates a cleaner, more defined silhouette, making it best suited to sewing patterns designed for medium-weight woven fabrics.
Perfect for Overshirts & Shirt Jackets
This cotton flannel is particularly well suited to overshirts, shackets and shirt jackets. Its medium weight provides enough structure for statement pockets, collars and button fronts while preserving the comfortable feel expected from flannel.
For shirts, it creates a warmer and more substantial garment than lightweight cotton shirting. For skirts and dresses, look for patterns that work well with moderate structure rather than designs requiring a very fluid drape.
Working With Plaid Fabric
Plaid placement can become an important part of the design of your finished garment. Taking extra time during cutting to align the prominent horizontal and vertical lines can produce a noticeably cleaner and more professional result.
Pay particular attention to the centre front, side seams, patch pockets, yokes and sleeve placement. On button-front garments, planning the placement of the plaid along the centre front before cutting can help create a balanced finished garment.
For greater accuracy, consider cutting important pattern pieces in a single layer. This allows you to see exactly where each section of the plaid will fall and makes it easier to position mirrored pieces symmetrically.
Use the Plaid as a Design Detail
The bold contrast within this plaid creates opportunities to use the pattern itself as a design feature. Depending on your sewing pattern, smaller pieces such as patch pockets, cuffs, yokes or selected collar details can be positioned differently from the main garment to highlight the plaid.
Bias-cut details can turn the straight horizontal and vertical plaid lines diagonally, creating an intentional contrast. Always follow your pattern's grainline requirements for pieces where stability is important.
Allow Extra Fabric for Plaid Matching
If you plan to match the plaid across seams and garment details, consider purchasing additional fabric beyond the yardage recommended by your sewing pattern. Pattern pieces often need to be moved farther apart to position the plaid correctly, reducing how efficiently they can be arranged on the fabric.
The amount of additional fabric required depends on the plaid repeat, garment size, number of pattern pieces and how precisely you would like the design to match.
Cutting Brushed Flannel
Because brushed fabrics have a slightly raised surface, their appearance can change subtly depending on the direction of the fibres and the way light reflects from them.
For the most consistent finished appearance, we recommend cutting all main garment pieces in the same direction. Before cutting, also check that the horizontal and vertical plaid lines are positioned correctly in relation to the grainline.

Sewing Tips
A universal sewing machine needle is suitable for most projects made with this cotton flannel. Choose your needle size according to the number of layers being sewn, particularly around collars, cuffs, pockets and button bands.
Standard all-purpose polyester thread works well for garment construction. Since this is a woven fabric, finishing the raw edges with a serger, zigzag stitch or your preferred seam finish will help reduce fraying and keep the inside of the garment neat.
Interfacing can be added to collars, cuffs, button plackets and other structured areas according to your sewing pattern. To preserve the soft character of the flannel, avoid using an interfacing that is unnecessarily stiff.
Prewashing & Care
We recommend prewashing cotton flannel before cutting. Natural cotton fibres may change after their first wash, so prewashing allows this to happen before your garment is cut and sewn.
Wash the fabric using the same method you intend to use for the finished garment. After washing and drying, press the fabric before laying out your pattern pieces so that the grain and plaid can be positioned accurately.
Machine wash cold. Tumble dry low or hang to dry. Iron at medium heat, preferably on the reverse side.
We recommend pre-washing your fabric the same way you plan to wash your finished garment.

Please note that stains, holes, or blemishes within 3 inches (10 cm) of the edge are considered acceptable. Missing or pulled knit stitches on the wrong side of the fabric that do not distort the face are also considered acceptable. Additionally, fabric cut at 1 to 3 cm from the edge is acceptable. Stains on the inside of the fabric are also acceptable if they do not appear on the right side.
Please be aware that fabric may shrink after the first wash, so we recommend purchasing slightly more than the exact length required for your project.
We cannot cancel or refund orders once we've cut your fabric. If a refund is necessary, a 5% administration fee of your total bill will be charged.
We cannot offer refunds or compensation for items purchased a few days before they go on sale.
If a product is sold out, we'll contact you immediately to offer either a refund of the item at the price you've paid or a replacement with a product of equal value.
