Made in Japan by Sevenberry, this beautiful Japanese cotton broadcloth features a delicate all-over floral print on a deep navy background. Petite pink and muted mustard flowers are surrounded by olive green leaves and tiny botanical details, creating a timeless print with a charming vintage-inspired feel.
Woven from 100% cotton, this lightweight 110 gsm broadcloth has a smooth, closely woven surface with no stretch. It is lighter and more versatile for garment sewing than a typical heavier quilting cotton, making it an excellent choice when you want the crispness and easy handling of woven cotton without too much weight or bulk.
The small-scale floral print is especially versatile for sewing because the motif works beautifully on both large and small pattern pieces. It can be used as the main fabric for an entire garment or as a contrasting detail for collars, cuffs, pockets, facings and other accents.
What Can You Sew With Japanese Cotton Broadcloth?
This lightweight Sevenberry cotton is a versatile choice for both garment sewing and creative sewing projects. Its woven structure makes it relatively easy to cut, press and sew, while its lightweight feel makes it comfortable for everyday clothing.
Recommended projects include:
- Button-up shirts and blouses
- Lightweight dresses and sundresses
- Gathered, pleated and A-line skirts
- Pyjamas and lightweight sleepwear
- Children's dresses, shirts and clothing
- Aprons
- Bandanas and scarves
- Fabric bags and lightweight accessories
- Quilting and patchwork
- Craft and home sewing projects
- Pockets, collars, cuffs, facings and contrast details
For garments that require significant fluidity or drape, a rayon or viscose fabric may be a better choice. This cotton broadcloth is best suited to sewing patterns that benefit from a lightweight woven fabric with gentle structure.
Why Choose Sevenberry Japanese Cotton?
Sevenberry is a Japanese textile brand known for its printed cotton fabrics and distinctive collections of florals, botanicals and timeless motifs. This fabric is part of Sevenberry's 6100 series of small floral prints on lightweight cotton broadcloth.
It combines the natural breathability and sewing-friendly qualities of cotton with a lighter weight that makes it particularly appealing for apparel. The result is a versatile Japanese cotton fabric suitable for experienced sewists and beginners alike.
Care Instructions
We recommend pre-washing your fabric before cutting, as natural cotton may shrink during its first wash.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is cotton broadcloth?
Cotton broadcloth is a tightly woven plain-weave cotton fabric with a smooth surface. This Sevenberry broadcloth is lightweight at 110 gsm, making it suitable for apparel as well as quilting, accessories and craft projects.
Is this fabric suitable for clothing?
Yes. Its lightweight construction makes it particularly well suited to shirts, blouses, dresses, skirts, pyjamas and children's clothing. It has more structure than a fluid rayon or viscose, so it works best for patterns designed for lightweight woven fabrics.
Can I use this Sevenberry cotton for quilting?
Yes. Although this fabric is a lightweight cotton broadcloth rather than a standard heavier quilting cotton, it can be used for quilting, patchwork and other creative sewing projects.
Is this fabric beginner-friendly?
Yes. Cotton broadcloth is generally easy to cut, press and sew, making it a good option for beginners as well as experienced sewists.
Should I pre-wash this fabric?
Yes. We recommend pre-washing and drying the fabric using the same method you plan to use for the finished project. This helps account for any natural cotton shrinkage before cutting your pattern pieces.
