Choose the cropped version for a modern, casual look or the regular hip-length version for an easy-to-style shirt that works beautifully for everyday wear and the office.
The design combines a traditional shirt collar and collar stand with a relaxed body, a centre-back box pleat and long sleeves without cuffs. Two large patch pockets add a distinctive contemporary detail, while the button-front closure creates a clean, classic finish.
Designed for medium-weight woven fabrics without elastane, The Noella Blouse is particularly beautiful in linen or cotton poplin. The original designer sample was created using 100% linen weighing approximately 255 gsm, giving the shirt a relaxed yet structured appearance.
Wear the cropped version with high-waisted trousers, jeans or skirts, or choose the hip-length version for a timeless oversized shirt. Noella also looks beautiful worn open over a fitted top as a lightweight layering piece.

Design Details
Oversized Silhouette:
Noella is designed with a wide, straight-cut body that provides comfortable ease and a relaxed appearance. Its generous proportions make the shirt easy to style for casual or more polished outfits.
Classic Shirt Collar:
The pattern features a traditional two-piece shirt collar with a separate collar stand. This gives the blouse a refined appearance while maintaining its casual oversized character.
Full-Length Button Placket:
The centre-front opening is finished with a folded button placket. Choose traditional buttons for a timeless shirt or snaps for a modern alternative.
Large Patch Pockets:
Two generously sized chest pockets add character and functionality. Their clean rectangular shape complements the oversized design and gives Noella a contemporary utility-inspired appearance.
Back Box Pleat:
A pleat at the centre back adds volume and allows the shirt to fall comfortably away from the body.
Back Yoke:
The separate back yoke provides a structured transition between the shoulders and body. The illustrated instructions show how to enclose the shoulder seams neatly between the yoke layers.
Relaxed Long Sleeves:

Recommended Fabrics
Juliana Martejevs recommends medium-weight woven fabrics without elastane. Choose a fabric with enough structure to define the collar, button placket and patch pockets while allowing the oversized silhouette to fall comfortably.
Designer's Original Fabric: 100% linen, approximately 255 gsm, with medium weight and no stretch.
Fabric Selection Tip: For a look similar to the original Noella Blouse, choose a medium-weight linen with visible natural texture. For a cleaner, crisper shirt, select cotton poplin or woven cotton shirting.
Pattern Matching Tip: Solid fabrics are especially suitable for beginners. Stripes, checks and other directional prints require additional care when cutting and matching the front panels, pockets and yoke.
Important: The pattern is designed for stable woven fabrics without elastane. Stretch jersey and other highly elastic knit fabrics are not recommended for the original construction.
Fabric Requirements
The following quantities are provided by Juliana Martejevs for fabrics measuring at least 138 cm - approximately 54 3/8" wide.
Important: These fabric quantities apply to all seven sizes according to the designer. Choose your preferred version before cutting.
Note: Additional fabric may be required for directional prints, pattern matching, shrinkage, fabric nap, length adjustments or fabrics with a narrower usable width.
Buttons & Fastenings
Fastening Options: Traditional sew-on buttons with machine-sewn buttonholes or suitable snap fasteners.
Note: The designer specifies the quantity of buttons or snaps but does not specify a fixed button diameter in the supplied materials list. Choose fasteners that are appropriate for the fabric weight and button placket.

Sewing Tip: A standard sewing machine can be used for this project. The designer demonstrates finishing raw edges with a zigzag stitch and using French seams for selected construction areas, so a serger is not required.
Size Range & Fit
The Noella Blouse includes seven women's sizes from XS to XXXL. The design features an intentionally oversized, straight-cut silhouette.
The designer recommends paying particular attention to your bust circumference when choosing a size. Since this is a relaxed-fit blouse, its generous ease provides a looser fit than a traditional tailored shirt.
Pattern Construction Overview
Step 1 – Prepare the Button Placket:
Fold and press the centre-front edges according to the pattern instructions. Stitch the folded edges to create the button plackets.
Step 2 – Sew the Buttonholes:
Mark the buttonhole positions on the appropriate front placket. Sew the buttonholes using a suitable buttonhole foot and setting for your selected buttons.
Step 3 – Prepare and Attach the Pockets:
Fold and press the patch pocket edges. Position the pockets using the pattern markings and topstitch them onto the front panels.
Step 4 – Create the Back Pleat:
Form the centre-back box pleat by folding the marked sections towards the centre. Secure the pleat with stitching.
Step 5 – Construct the Back Yoke:
Attach the yoke pieces to the back and front shoulder sections, following the illustrated instructions to enclose the seams neatly.
Step 6 – Attach the Sleeves:
Position the sleeves in the armholes and match the marked notches. Stitch and press the sleeve seams.
Step 7 – Sew the Side and Sleeve Seams:
Join the side and sleeve seams using the French-seam method described in the instructions.
Step 8 – Construct the Collar:
Sew the collar pieces together, trim and turn the corners, then assemble the collar stand and attach it to the neckline.
Step 9 – Finish the Hems:
Fold, press and stitch the sleeve and lower blouse hems according to the marked seam allowances.
Step 10 – Attach the Buttons:
Sew the buttons at the marked positions and carefully open the finished buttonholes.

Because digital products cannot be returned once downloaded, we do not offer refunds, returns, or exchanges on any PDF pattern purchases.

We strive for excellence in our products and customer service, but some imperfections may occur with fabric.
Please note that stains, holes, or blemishes within 3 inches (10 cm) of the edge are considered acceptable. Missing or pulled knit stitches on the wrong side of the fabric that do not distort the face are also considered acceptable. Additionally, fabric cut at 1 to 3 cm from the edge is acceptable. Stains on the inside of the fabric are also acceptable if they do not appear on the right side.
Please be aware that fabric may shrink after the first wash, so we recommend purchasing slightly more than the exact length required for your project.
We cannot cancel or refund orders once we've cut your fabric. If a refund is necessary, a 5% administration fee of your total bill will be charged.
We cannot offer refunds or compensation for items purchased a few days before they go on sale.
If a product is sold out, we'll contact you immediately to offer either a refund of the item at the price you've paid or a replacement with a product of equal value.
