Design Details
Elegant V-Neckline:
The classic V-shaped neckline creates a flattering and sophisticated appearance. It is finished with separate neckline facings for a clean, structured result without a visible neckband.
Princess-Seam Bodice:
The front and back feature shaped princess seams that contour the dress through the bust and upper body. These seams create a more defined silhouette while allowing the skirt to fall gracefully away from the body.
Flowing A-Line Skirt:
The skirt gradually widens towards the hem, creating an airy, comfortable silhouette with natural movement. Lightweight woven fabrics with good drape beautifully emphasize this design.
Short Flared Sleeves:
The gently flared short sleeves add volume and softness around the shoulders and arms. Their distinctive shape gives Rory a refined, romantic character without excessive bulk.
Invisible Back Zipper:
A 60 cm invisible zipper is installed at the centre back, providing an understated fastening that maintains the dress's streamlined appearance.

Recommended Fabrics
Juliana Martejevs recommends lightweight to medium-weight woven fabrics with little or no stretch. The ideal fabric should provide enough structure for the princess-seam bodice while remaining soft and fluid enough for the A-line skirt and flared sleeves.
Designer's Original Fabric: 100% cotton lightweight denim, approximately 130 gsm.
Fabric Selection Tip: For a softly flowing silhouette similar to the designer's original, choose a lightweight woven fabric with natural movement. Linen provides a slightly textured, airy appearance, while lightweight cotton denim gives the dress a more casual character.
Important: The Rory Dress is drafted for woven fabrics with little or no stretch. Heavily structured fabrics may affect the drape of the flared skirt and sleeves, while highly elastic knits are not recommended for the original construction.
Fabric Requirements
The following quantities are provided by Juliana Martejevs for fabrics measuring at least 140 cm - 55" wide.
Important: These measurements are for the complete dress, including the main bodice, skirt, sleeves and facing pieces.
Note: Additional fabric may be required for directional prints, pattern matching, fabric shrinkage, fabric nap, length adjustments or narrower usable widths.
Additional Supplies & Notions
- Invisible Zipper: 60 cm / approximately 24" long
- Fusible Interfacing: 0.40 m / approximately 0.44 yd, at least 90 cm / 35" wide, such as Vlieseline H200
- Matching all-purpose sewing thread
- Sewing machine needle suitable for the selected woven fabric, such as size 80
- Fabric scissors or rotary cutter
- Paper scissors for cutting the PDF pattern

Sewing Tip: Precise cutting and pressing are particularly important when constructing princess seams and the V-neckline. A dedicated invisible zipper foot also makes it easier to achieve a neat, discreet back closure.
Size Range & Fit
The Rory Dress includes seven women's sizes from XS to XXXL. The designer recommends using your bust, waist and hip measurements to select the most suitable size.
Because the bodice is fitted through the bust, pay particular attention to your chest measurement. The A-line skirt offers more ease through the hips than a fitted skirt design.
Pattern Construction Overview
Step 1 – Prepare the Fabric:
Cut the pattern pieces according to your selected size and the recommended fabric layout. Finish raw edges as indicated in the instructions using an overlock stitch or suitable zigzag stitch.
Step 2 – Sew the Princess Seams:
Join the front and side-front pieces, carefully matching the pattern notches. Repeat with the back and side-back pieces, then press the seams according to the illustrated instructions.
Step 3 – Install the Invisible Zipper:
Insert the 60 cm invisible zipper at the centre back of the dress, ensuring both sides align correctly. Close the remaining centre-back seam below the zipper.
Step 4 – Join the Shoulder and Side Seams:
Place the front and back together with right sides facing, matching the princess seams at the shoulders. Sew the shoulder and side seams, then press neatly.
Step 5 – Attach the Flared Sleeves:
Sew the sleeve seams, then insert the sleeves into the armholes. Match the notches and distribute the fabric evenly to achieve a smooth sleeve attachment.
Step 6 – Finish the Neckline:
Apply interfacing to the required facing pieces. Join the facings and attach them to the V-neckline, taking care to form a precise V at the centre front. Press and secure the facing as instructed.
Step 7 – Finish the Hems:
Fold and press the sleeve and dress hems according to the instructions, then topstitch close to the folded edges for a neat finish.

Because digital products cannot be returned once downloaded, we do not offer refunds, returns, or exchanges on any PDF pattern purchases.

We strive for excellence in our products and customer service, but some imperfections may occur with fabric.
Please note that stains, holes, or blemishes within 3 inches (10 cm) of the edge are considered acceptable. Missing or pulled knit stitches on the wrong side of the fabric that do not distort the face are also considered acceptable. Additionally, fabric cut at 1 to 3 cm from the edge is acceptable. Stains on the inside of the fabric are also acceptable if they do not appear on the right side.
Please be aware that fabric may shrink after the first wash, so we recommend purchasing slightly more than the exact length required for your project.
We cannot cancel or refund orders once we've cut your fabric. If a refund is necessary, a 5% administration fee of your total bill will be charged.
We cannot offer refunds or compensation for items purchased a few days before they go on sale.
If a product is sold out, we'll contact you immediately to offer either a refund of the item at the price you've paid or a replacement with a product of equal value.
