Its double-layered finish creates a neat interior, adds coverage and provides a smooth, polished appearance without requiring a separate lining fabric.
Made for lightweight to medium-weight stretch jersey, the pattern is particularly well suited to soft cotton jersey containing elastane. The designer recommends a medium-weight GOTS-certified organic cotton jersey with 95% cotton and 5% elastane, weighing approximately 200 gsm.
Rated Easy Peasy in the included sewing e-book, this approachable sewing project can be completed in approximately three hours. Two Strap Variations
Version A – Straight Straps
The classic version features two narrow spaghetti straps running straight over the shoulders. This minimalist design creates a timeless summer crop top that works beautifully with casual and elegant outfits.
The straightforward strap placement gives the top a simple, refined appearance and allows it to be worn with high-waisted trousers, skirts or denim.
Version B – Crossed Straps
For a more distinctive look, choose the crossed-back strap variation. The delicate straps intersect at the back, adding a subtle design detail while maintaining the clean, understated front.
This variation is particularly attractive for summer outfits, vacation wardrobes and evening styling.
Design Tip: Both variations use the same front and back bodice pieces. The difference is in the strap construction and placement, making it easy to create multiple versions of The Vicy Top.
Design Details
Ballerina-Inspired Neckline:
The softly curved neckline gives the top a delicate, feminine appearance inspired by classic dancewear. Its simple shape pairs beautifully with the fine shoulder straps.
Double-Layered Construction:
The front and back are each cut twice to create a fully doubled bodice. This provides additional coverage and allows the neckline and hem to be neatly enclosed for a clean finish.
Fitted Cropped Silhouette:
The design sits close to the body and finishes above the natural waist. Stretch jersey allows the top to move comfortably while maintaining its fitted appearance.
Delicate Spaghetti Straps:
The narrow fabric straps are sewn, turned and pressed before being incorporated into the bodice. Choose the straight or crossed-back option to personalize your look.
Smooth Interior Finish:
The double-layered construction encloses the main edges of the top, leaving a polished appearance with minimal visible stitching.
Recommended Fabrics
Juliana Martejevs recommends lightweight to medium-weight stretch jersey fabrics with good elasticity and recovery. A soft knit containing elastane is particularly suitable for this close-fitting design.
Designer's Recommended Fabric: GOTS-certified organic cotton jersey composed of 95% cotton and 5% elastane, approximately 200 gsm.
Fabric Selection Tip: Choose a soft, opaque jersey with sufficient stretch and recovery to maintain the crop top's fitted silhouette. Since the bodice is double-layered, avoid excessively heavy knits that may create too much bulk.
Important: This pattern is designed for stretch fabrics. Non-stretch woven fabrics such as cotton poplin, linen or canvas are not recommended for the original construction.
Fabric Requirements
The following quantities are taken from the included Juliana Martejevs sewing e-book for fabrics measuring 140 cm - 55" wide.
Important: The quantities above are specified in the included e-book for both the straight and crossed strap variations. The designer's online product description gives different, smaller estimates; the e-book quantities are used here so the listed requirements match the supplied sewing instructions.
Note: Additional fabric may be needed for directional prints, pattern matching, fabric shrinkage, length adjustments or fabrics with a different usable width.

Sewing Tip: The designer recommends sewing the jersey with a stretch stitch or an overlock stitch. The standard seam allowance is 1 cm / 3/8", while overlocked seams may be trimmed to approximately 0.7 cm / 5/16", as described in the instructions.
Size Range & Fit
The Vicy Top includes seven women's sizes from XS to XXXL. The designer recommends measuring both your bust and waist carefully when choosing a size.
Because this is a fitted garment, the stretch and recovery of the selected jersey will influence the finished fit. Making a test garment is recommended when uncertain between sizes.

Because digital products cannot be returned once downloaded, we do not offer refunds, returns, or exchanges on any PDF pattern purchases.
Please make sure you have the correct email address and a device that can open PDF files before completing your order.

We strive for excellence in our products and customer service, but some imperfections may occur with fabric.
Please note that stains, holes, or blemishes within 3 inches (10 cm) of the edge are considered acceptable. Missing or pulled knit stitches on the wrong side of the fabric that do not distort the face are also considered acceptable. Additionally, fabric cut at 1 to 3 cm from the edge is acceptable. Stains on the inside of the fabric are also acceptable if they do not appear on the right side.
Please be aware that fabric may shrink after the first wash, so we recommend purchasing slightly more than the exact length required for your project.
We cannot cancel or refund orders once we've cut your fabric. If a refund is necessary, a 5% administration fee of your total bill will be charged.
We cannot offer refunds or compensation for items purchased a few days before they go on sale.
If a product is sold out, we'll contact you immediately to offer either a refund of the item at the price you've paid or a replacement with a product of equal value.
